New Fluther Guidelines (and new jelly table!)

Posted March 23rd, 2009 by andrew

After much deliberation with Ben, the moderators, and the community, I’ve updated the community guidelines to reflect a bit of an adjustment in policy from the last few months.

The gist is that Fluther is primarily built for “straight” questions — but we welcome “social” questions as long as they show effort, promote thoughtful discussion and/or are especially creative. I’ve also outlined a little more about the moderation process.

We’ve also seen a large influx of users from our friends at the soon-defunct Q&A site wis.dm, so please be patient while we adjust to each other, and thanks for being such great jellies!

Also, the next Jelly-table is on Thursday, March 26, at 6PM Pacific (9PM Eastern, GMT -7 hours) in the Coral Reef Jelly-table chatroom.  We’ll welcome your discussion about the site!

    I can’t wait, last one was super-awesome! :)

Just a thought: how about if we turn off the “please say hello” guidance at sign-in just for this? As somebody (maybe mangeons) remarked last week, it was a “hello” chat room. Every time someone arrived, we had a huge flurry of greetings in the middle of an attempted exchange of substantive comments. I was thinking maybe we should treat it more like a meeting than a party when it’s structured as a community discussion. What do you think?

  3. mangeons Says:

Yes, Jeruba, it was me that mentioned it, and I completely agree, we don’t have to “say hello” to everyone who comes in. I’ll be there tonight!

A transcript for those who missed it.

Did you like the Kraken from Pirates of the Caribbean better or the Kraken from Clash of the Titans better?

I recently asked a very thoughtful question, my first one actually. May I be apprised as to how it doesn’t meet the community guidelines here?

Thanks for posting the transcript Ry.

Oh, great. This is where I left off:

    petethepothead
