The new ask process

Posted August 18th, 2009 by andrew

We’ve been testing this feature for a while, and we’re pleased to unveil the new ask process to everyone on the site.

Overall, we’ve seen fewer first questions pushed to moderation and the ask process run more smoothly for users.

The new data we’re collecting will give us a lot of room to play with how we can filter the questions on the site, as well as allowing us to add more features to continue to give you the highest quality, most accessible way to get your questions answered.

In other news, we’ve been eaten by a PR monster.

PR monster? are we in the belly of the gawker network or something?

  2. iWamoto Says:

Imagine if you clicked “this is an opinion question” that it would automatically delete, that would be so awesome…

And an automator that would search questions for words like “god, do you like, i think” etc.

oh imagine a fluther without the bullshit.

oh and yes, you should dump him !

Goddamn it, Bendrew. Always poking around and doing stuff when we aren’t lookin’.

I like it. The extra screen space is nice. I was using greasemonkey to delete the div for the “ask” box. I would disable it to ask a question. I really like the new system. It saves me a bit of work.

I like the new ask system. It’s nice. It can help filter out all the bad questions. Good job as always, Bendrew! (:

I’ve liked the new system since it was rolled out. It is great to be prompted to think through the reasons behind a question, I also really like the live preview off to the side.

OK.. Total pony request. I know you like things to be clean and clutter free.

Maybe a button that says “Is this a question about your computer?” And then it asks what your OS is and shows how to find out if you don’t know. And then add that to the question as a tag.

I have typed “Windows, Mac, or Linux?” so many times.

    Just a thought.

I lurve iWamota’s idea of an automatic “search” result for similar questions - might cut down on the eternal questions about jailbreak, the end of the world in 2012, whether you believe in gosts/aliens/life after death/and so on.

So, care to elaborate about the PR monster or link me to something?

I think grumpyfish is kind of cute. He has his priorities straight, which is a rare thing in this day and age.

Is he single? Um…my friend wants to know…

  14. AstroChuck Says:

i like it. I still worry about the way Dr. J eyes grumpyfish though.

@johnpowell I quite like the idea of “Is this a question about your iPhone?” and then if you check the box, it closes the browser window and opens twelve popups that say “GTFO”.

I fracking love this feature, and have for some time.
    Way to go, boys.

    Question for Jeep fanatics:

I recently came upon a pea soup green, embossed with the JEEP logo, collapsable, folding leg BBQ, in basically mint condition. Is there any interest out there for this portable grill? It is as clean as can be.
