Announcing Awards!

Posted October 10th, 2009 by ben

We’re constantly amazed by how much goodness is in the Fluther collective. So we thought it was high time to up the ante on our communal lurve. Thus, we proudly present: Fluther awards!! Here’s what ubersiren’s awards look like:

The idea is simple: do all the wonderful stuff you’re already doing (asking great questions, writing great answers, etc.) and you’ll start to get Fluther awards! There are neat and strange awards for all sorts of things–of course, we slipped in some secret ones to keep you on your toes, as well.

We apologize if this was confusing at first (we’re still working out some kinks). We have many more awards in store; this is just the beginning. Plus, there are more exciting new features coming soon! Goodies for everyone!

We’re working up a storm in here.

Let us know what you think.

Thanks guys! The awards are fun! Now tell me why I’m a Pilgrim.

  3. gggritso Says:

Awesome! I like the easter-egg hover text.

  4. J0E Says:

I think it’s fun and shows who has been here for a while. I just hope it doesn’t alienate newcomers. Good job guys!

  5. eponymoushipster Says:

for the love of all that is good and sacred, what the !@# do the “Pilgrim” and “Old Timer” awards mean?? Aug was, at best, cryptic in one thread about “Pilgrim”, but I don’t get the connection she implies.

There Fluthergods - are you happy? Has this appeased you?!? TELL US PLEASE!

  6. eponymoushipster Says:

stupid brackets. — i threw a virgin into a volcano in that last comment. FYI

  7. Andrew Says:

@J0E: Most of the tidepool-level awards are easy to unlock — we’ve done some tweaking to make sure there’s a fairly even distribution about when people can unlock them.

  8. J0E Says:

@andrew That’s good because I know from prior experiences that award systems can be a big turn off to newcomers, but I’m glad to see you took that in consideration.

  9. Jeruba Says:

    Sorry, but it alienates me.

I think it is fun and I am enjoying it so far. Good job and thanx.

I didn’t like the riddle though of figuring out what the one’s without descriptions meant/ mean. Really made/makes me feel like a fool that I couldn’t/can’t get them.

  11. Gail Says:

Cute and clever but will have a short life-span for me (and Milo).

  12. Saturated_Brain Says:

Hahaha not a bad idea at all to keep us regulars here. Hook line and sinker eh?

  13. Alena Says:

I like it, it’s fun. I really enjoyed each award’s description and got a big kick out of them. If nothing else, it’s definitely been a conversation-starter around here. :)

  14. NazNthahouse23 Says:

heyyy, how can i see my awards?

  15. Darwin Says:

Interesting idea, but slow-thinking me took a while to figure out where they were displayed. Not quite as good as a free t-shirt or a mug, but not bad. It is fun to see what each is, but the thrill soon goes away.

  16. sakura Says:

Funny as :) Well they made me smile, do the comments that appear when you roll over them change I wonder? I’ll check that out later!! Loving the site still and just as much addicted as I was when I started!

  17. Dog Says:

They are fun an unobtrusive. :)

  18. aprilsimnel Says:

Saaaay, a Dr. J mug *would* be nice.

I love the awards! They’re so much fun! Although, I do count myself among the ones who have no idea what those last three awards are for. I mean, I have a pilgrim award and I don’t know why. It’s interesting to try and figure out though…

I love the awards. It’s kind of hard to get them when you have an iTouch and the keys are about as big as my pinkie toe’s fingernail, but I like doing this at school (don’t tell my teachers!) because it gets me thinking. (:

I’ll get to be a robot crush one day!
