Fluther is a free Q&A collective that specializes in getting
fast answers from the right people. Check it out!
It is with much excitement that we would like to announce that the Fluther team has been acquired by Twitter.
We are thrilled to be joining such a fantastic company and to have the opportunity to participate in the next stage of Twitter’s growth.
We love Twitter, and we think their wonderful culture and technology are a perfect match for our team. It’s the ideal place for us to keep building things that people love.
Don’t panic. We are planning to keep Fluther.com up and running, as it is, as a separate project from Twitter. We won’t be developing it as we’re now focused on Twitter, but Lisa will continue on as community manager and maintainer.
Thank you to everyone who helped Fluther grow from an idea into a thriving community with over a million visitors a month. We’ll have more details about the state of Fluther in the coming weeks.
We are so grateful to everyone who has helped us along the way, and we can’t wait to dive into the exciting challenges ahead.
Ben & Andrew
Wow! Mazel Tov to you. I will await developments.
That is awesome! TIM TRUEMAN is a badass architect!
way to go guys!
Congratulations, guys!
Congrat’z guy’s !
Oh.
What exactly does this mean?
What does it mean that the “Fluther team” has been acquired? It was my understanding that human beings could not be sold and bought ~
…….
Congratulations, guys! You deserve it!
Amazing! Congrats!
I think it means their services have been acquired. Perhaps under contract, as opposed to on salary. It looks like Twitter is in need of ideas, and possibly community, although I don’t see how you can build community 140 characters at a time. But then, obviously, as anyone who knows me can tell, I can’t even get out a tenth of an idea in that number of characters, and I have no interest in trying to learn.
I guess the technology of fluther won’t change now. So all those questions about what fluther should change will be moot; exercises in navel gazing. Not that fluther doesn’t do that all the time, anyway.
The real problem will be that their energy will not be here. So it is likely that fluther will slowly die off because there will be no effort to make it grow. It could well become a slowly sinking ship, with Lisa being the last “man” on board — our captain.
Well, someone should ask a question about alternative places to go, so we can disappear like rats fleeing the sinking ship. I’m sure this is good news for the technical team. It is a good way for them to cash in on all the work they have done.
I wonder what is going to happen to the people who invested capital in fluther? It seems likely that funding will dry up, and when that happens, the servers will probably be sold at a fire sale and fluther will disappear. Well. That will teach us to get invested in any particular online community.
“twitter gets jellyfish, news at 11…”
😉
contests Ben & Andrew & team!
Huh.
I just hope you make Twitter more useful. It needs that.
Well, I hope Fluther rubs off on Twitter, because Twitter sure doesn’t have anything to offer. Pearls before swine, guys. Pearls before swine.
Regarding funding, Fluther has enough revenue to cover its costs. No worries there. 🙂
“We won’t be developing it as we’re now focused on Twitter, but Lisa will continue on as community manager and maintainer.”
What does this mean, exactly? Will Flutter continue to grow feature-wise and be supported by both community managers and developers, or will it be left to stagnate for a few years until the last member abandons it and then be closed down for good?
Holy cow moly. Congrats to all of you. Hope to have dinner with you in SF someday!
Congrats. Good to see Twitter trying to improve their offerings! Good luck.
wundayatta is right..
Beside, Fluther would eventually fail as it currently runs anyway.
The amount of hits is a moot point. There are only a handful of people answering a handful of questions.
Fluther would eventually atrophy into a Yahoo answers type of site to continue on.
I wish you guys all the best in your new endeavor.
I think it means that Fluther the business has now been acquired and become owned by Twitter the business; that Fluther is now a subsidiary of Twitter; that Fluther employees are now Twitter employees; that Fluther technology now belongs to Twitter; and that the Fluther vision is subsumed in the overall Twitter corporate vision. That’s what “acquired” meant in the acquisition-ravenous high-tech corporate environment that I last worked in.
I just wanna know what the check was made out for.
Seriously guys, how much didja get?
–(I made the above post about 15 minutes ago and now it says 8 hours ago.)–
Congrats Ben & Andrew! It’s been awesome working with you guys. Couldn’t be happier for you.
I’m happy for you guys, but sad for myself. Feels like the end of something.
Tranquilo
Tim Trueman. So hot right now. Worth every penny.
Congrats to you all, but I’m disappointed as well if, as I think it is, john’s second scenario is the case. If Fluther’s code is no longer maintained, I don’t see it continuing long into the future. Would be a shame to throw away such a community.
I think “We won’t be developing it as we’re now focused on Twitter” says it all. Perhaps we’ll become the next “Delicious” here? The thing that becomes a sort of internet fossil when development stops?
I mean, congrats! Yay! I am glad it turned out great for Ben and Andrew, and they certainly owe us nothing – we’ve been using their site for free for years, but… there it goes.
Im sorry to see this honestly, I regret not being able to be on Fluther now for the past few months, I feel as though my time on here hs become even shorter now. I am glad that this is a good thing for Andrew and Ben, but what about the rest of us? What does twitter have to offer those of us who rather the whole world not know that we are sitting on the crapper or eating a cookie? What will happen to the intelligence level? And the fact that there will no longer be any development is disappointing, how is this going to make Fluther better when there is no growth?
Been here since before the beginning. Living the dream. Happy Trails; Andrew and Ben
Andrew and Ben, I am happy for you and anxious for Fluther. Wishing you the best in the coming year in your new assignment. Don’t forget us. We will not forget you.
Congrats guys! I am so proud of you! You are amazing!
Great work, especially @timtrueman
Gee Jellies…. What else could they do here? Fluther rocks! It is perfection as is. If they stayed they would be bored senseless and resort to throwing paper airplanes at one another and playing Dungeons and Dragons. 🙂
Congrats guys!!!
You are the best and Twitter will be an awesome challenge and will benefit from your amazing skills!
I don’t lurve the twit. I do lurve the Fluther. So, congratulations. Whatever helps the fluther work and thrive.
sou novato tenho 3 bloggers , estou alegre em visitar este blog
I’m still sorry we won’t see Dr. J. with his Santa hat. Boo Hoo.
What’s a twitter?
Hey, what’s my cut?
* * * Y * A * Y * * * The Santa Hat is back, with a candy cane even.
Congratulations!!!!! Yay Fluther
Fluther has come a long way, since i first joined. a city without construction is a city going nowhere. i have never felt this way about Fluther. each month, there is something new in technology that the Fluther “guys” have added or tried and that’s a good thing. john p.
I agree john, but that’s the end of all that sadly.
So welcome the stagnant city…
Oh MY! 🙁 I still don’t know if this is good or bad?…or in-between somewhere. Well… we shall see. All the best guys x
So long, Ben & Andrew [& Tim] and thanks for all the fish.
wow.
Much Lurve and respect to the team! I hope this really takes you where you want to go, in a creative sense. I’ve never been a Twit, and like wundayatta, I *detest* post limits… so that is unlikely to change. Maybe your influence can actually make a difference.
I never became involved in the community aspect as much as many have, but I am rather fond of many of my fellow Jellies… you can find me on Facebook (am I allowed to say that now that this is property of Twitter?); and those with an iPhone, iPod Touch and/or iPad (running iOS 4) I will gladly welcome to iRovr – find it in the App store.
I’ll be checking in periodically, as I have been — I am curious as to how this will unfold, and hope that it will be beneficial to all!

Need some help, have case held up for 24 months, conflict of interest known, misrepresentation of counsel, not barred in DC, has defaulted judgement in MD for counsel, would like someone to suggest alternative counsel for DC, MD, or VA area. Please write me at my email address for suggestions on counsel due to fact counsel has conflict of client interest and will take some time to review and the statute of limitations must be adhered to.
valoraptorr@netscape.net anytime. please put phone number or contact method. Going public tomorrow in snow with NPR, CNN, and a few others. won’t be sued because have documentation and true. rs
This seems the only way to contact Twitter without using snail mail. How does one RETWEET one’s FAVORITES????????? Their is NO NO NO link .. . . contrary to what Twitter’s Help section writes.
well, I am going to be honest, Charles County Sherifff’s Office, Maryland has an IA report because they accused me and spouse of being terrorist. Unwarranted and Unfounded. Said did it over internet. 10-167-IA; still haven’t gotten original report from Coffey…gee wonder why??? then found out from General Counsel that have INTERPOL File number and have nothing on me or spouse in file…. gee wonder why??? because I never had any and because this Stoddard CCSO guy along with LaFleur guy Frito-Lay conspired to obstruct justice case HRC2009235E. Get the picture yet Richard Patrick Attorney??????
i can help
Fluther = Twits
So, going to Twitter is a symbiotic action.
Kim Collina, If you are still out there and you are honest, please put your email up and I’ll contact you. Thanks RS
Found out the guys name was not Mark LaFleur but Omar Carrillo, who is an IT guy from Frito-Lay. We need to set the record straight. This Omar guy now divorced came up from Texas to call me on paper with a police report vicious names, people I know were afraid they would not get their business license renewed so they cowarded down to accept the intrusion of Omar Carrillo in their lives. this is for the record. The same person deencrypted my password on this email. Pretty awful.
CONGRATULATIONS GUYS! This is wonderful and amazing for so many reasons. 🙂
